M40 Water Main Renewal
Renewing a Critical Link in Melbourne's North
DN1800 RCJP for a Large-Diameter Main Renewal
In 2018, Empire supplied 200 metres of CP&P DN1800 Reinforced Concrete Jacking Pipe (RCJP) for the M40 Water Main Renewal. At DN1800, the specification represents the upper end of the standard jacking pipe diameter range and required precise matching to Melbourne Water's long-term pressure service standards.
"Melbourne Water's transmission infrastructure is the backbone of the city's water supply. A DN1800 renewal requires the right pipe, delivered on time, to a program shared across two major contractors." Aaron Mackley, Director of Sales & Operations, Empire Infrastructure
Trenchless Installation in a Sensitive Urban Corridor
Pipe jacking minimised disruption to the riparian corridor adjacent to Merri Creek and the established suburban environment between the creek and Preston Reservoir. The 200-metre drive was completed by Rob Carr Pty Ltd and CPB Contractors with supply coordinated to the combined construction program.
Maintaining Supply Continuity for Melbourne's North
The completed M40 renewal restored the structural integrity of a key transmission main in Melbourne Water's northern network, ensuring continued reliable supply to the region. The project reinforces Empire's track record supplying large-diameter concrete jacking pipe for critical urban water infrastructure across Victoria.
