Record Drives and Critical Crossings

3,900 Metres of GRP and a Record-Breaking Drive

In 2017, Empire supplied 3,900 metres of DN1400 BOSSPIPE™ Centrifugally Cast GRP (CC-GRP) Jacking Pipe at SN1,000,000, Intermediate Jacking Station Pipes, and nine GRP manholes. The project included a single drive of 580 metres, a record for a DN1400 GRP installation in Australia at the time.

"A 580-metre single drive in DN1400 CC-GRP comes from getting every element of the supply right: pipe geometry, joint tolerance, interjack configuration." Aaron Mackley, Director of Sales & Operations, Empire Infrastructure

Crossing the Hume Freeway and Merri Creek at Depth

The alignment included crossings beneath the Hume Freeway and Merri Creek, both completed without surface disruption. Installation depths reached 15 metres. The nine GRP manholes included Vortex Structures, with tunnel boring access shafts converted to manholes post-construction to serve as ongoing maintenance access points.

Four Kilometres of Capacity for Melbourne's North

The completed sewer has enabled residential development to proceed across Melbourne's northern growth corridor, supplying essential sewerage capacity for thousands of new households. Kalkallo demonstrates Empire's capability to deliver large-diameter GRP at scale, including record-breaking drive lengths and complete manhole packages for major sewerage infrastructure.
